AI Chat: ask anything about your own money
Mihkel Vetemaa
Updated
AI Chat is the middle tab of the app: a chat that answers questions about your own finances, computed from your real data. Ask “How much does my life cost per day?”, “Where can I reduce my spending?”, or “Plan my next month” and the answer comes from your actual transactions, budgets, and balances — not generic advice.
What it can see
AI Chat works with the same data you see in the app: your transactions (with categories, tags, and merchants), budgets, recurring payments, account balances, assets, and net worth. It can break spending down by category, merchant, or tag over any period, compare months, and run precise calculations. It can also search the web for up-to-date general information and check whether a specific bank is supported by Bilance.
If you use Shared Finances, the Your / Shared / All filter at the top of the chat controls which data the answers draw from.
What it can’t do
- It can’t change anything. AI Chat reads and advises; it doesn’t edit transactions, create budgets, or touch your accounts. Editing stays in the app’s screens.
- It can’t move money. Like the rest of Bilance, it has read-only access.
- There’s a generous daily usage limit; if you hit it, the chat tells you and resets within 24 hours.
Things to try
- “What am I spending too much money on?”
- “Explain the 50/30/20 budget rule using my own numbers.”
- “Which merchants get the most money from me?”
- “Rate my financial health on a scale of 1–10.”
- “If I changed nothing, where will I be financially in 1 year?”
- “Roast my finances.”
Tap the example-questions button in the chat for more, and ask in any language — the answer follows the language you write in.
Memory
With Memory enabled (AI Chat → Memory), the chat can remember durable facts you share — your name, family size, goals, plans — and use them to personalize answers. You can view, edit, or delete the memory at any time, and turn off automatic saving. Your accounts and transactions are always available to the chat regardless of Memory; Memory is only this extra remembered layer.
How your data is handled
AI Chat uses Google Gemini models, running in the Google Cloud Platform — the same place that stores all your Bilance data. It doesn’t make your data available to any new third parties, Google doesn’t use your data to train its AI models, and chat data held by Gemini is deleted within 24 hours. Your chat history is saved in your Bilance account and you can delete it at any time. The shield icon in the chat shows this same summary in the app.
