How does syncing with my bank account work?

Mihkel Vetemaa

Updated

Bank accounts connected to Bilance sync automatically to keep your transactions and balances up to date. You don’t need to do anything: a sync starts on its own when you open the app, as long as at least 30 minutes have passed since the last one.

Syncing limitations

  1. Syncs are spaced out. There is a minimum gap of 30 minutes between syncs of the same connection. Most banks allow plenty of syncs per day, but a few banks set their own unusually low daily limits (as low as 2–4 syncs per day). If your bank is one of them, the app shows a notice on the account’s details page.
  2. Your consent expires periodically. European open banking rules (PSD2) require the access you granted to expire after a while, for most banks after 90 or 180 days. When that happens, syncing stops until you renew the connection. This takes about a minute and none of your data is lost.

What to do if syncing fails

  • Temporary issues: most sync failures are on the bank’s side and resolve themselves. Wait for the next sync.
  • Consent expired: if the account shows a reconnect prompt, renew the connection.
  • Persistent issues: if syncing keeps failing, our troubleshooting guide covers the common causes, and you can always contact support in the app.
  • No need to delete the connection: reconnecting an existing connection always beats deleting and re-adding it. Your history stays in place either way.
