Bilance vs Spendee

Spendee is a clean, well-designed tracker with broad European bank coverage; Bilance goes further on automation. With Bilance, subscriptions and recurring bills are detected for you, net worth is built in, and connected bank accounts can be shared with a partner, which Spendee’s shared wallets cannot do. We make Bilance; every fact below comes from an official page, checked on the date above, so you can verify each one.
What Spendee does well
Spendee has been around since 2013 and its polish shows:
- Broad account types. Besides banks (2,500+ providers via Salt Edge and Plaid, with every EU country in its selector), Spendee connects e-wallets and crypto wallets. Bilance connects banks; other assets are tracked manually.
- File import and export. Spendee’s web app imports CSV and Excel files into cash wallets, and transactions can be exported, partly even on the free tier. Bilance exports CSV but has no file import at all.
- Guest-friendly shared wallets. The wallet owner pays; invited guests can use the free tier and still add and edit shared transactions. For simple shared manual expenses, that is a generous model.
- A published trial. Seven days for its paid plans, stated plainly on an official help page.
Where Bilance is stronger
- Automation depth. Spendee’s automatic categorisation requires Premium, learns after roughly 4 to 5 corrections by its own documentation, and does not work for banks connected through their direct APIs. Bilance categorises most transactions automatically and improves with your corrections.
- Recurring payments. Spendee’s scheduled transactions work only in manual cash wallets. Bilance detects subscriptions and repeated bills from your real bank transactions and tracks them on a dedicated screen: fixed costs visible, price increases noticed, forgotten charges found. A “balance after recurrings” view shows what is really free to spend once the bills you know are coming have taken their share.
- Ask, instead of tapping through charts. Bilance’s AI Chat answers questions from your own data: “how much did the Spain trip cost?”, “what am I paying for streaming in total?”, “was this a normal month?”. Spendee’s published AI is a receipt scanner (Premium); we could not find an assistant you can ask about your finances in its documentation.
- Sharing real bank accounts. Spendee’s shared wallets cannot include connected bank wallets or budgets. Bilance’s Shared Finances shares the bank accounts you choose, so a couple sees real, automatic data together.
- Net worth. Spendee documents no dedicated net-worth feature. Bilance shows what you own minus what you owe, with bank balances updating automatically. You can add your home, investments and pension as manual assets next to those balances, and investments can be tracked unit by unit, with prices you enter yourself, so you see what you paid and how much they have gained.
- Bank list you can check first. Bilance publishes 2,300+ banks across the EU/EEA, browsable by country before you install.
How we tested
We compared Bilance and Spendee across bank sync, automation, recurring payments, net worth, sharing, platforms, and pricing model. Every non-Bilance fact in the table comes from the vendor’s own website, help centre, legal documents, or app store listing, opened on the date shown with that cell’s source link. Where we could not verify a point, the table shows a dash instead of a guess. Bilance behaviour was checked in the current product. We did not run hands-on device tests of the other app for this article. The verdict is our editorial judgment, not a scored ranking, and we recheck the facts every two months.

On pricing models: Spendee has a free tier for manual tracking, with bank sync in Premium. Bilance has no permanent free tier; it is one paid subscription with everything included, and most new users start with a full-featured trial; the exact terms are shown in the app before you pay. Both apps’ sync depends on each bank’s own interface quality, so reliability varies by bank for both.
Switching from Spendee
Spendee exports transactions as CSV or XLS from its mobile apps; on the free plan the export covers only the last 365 days, while paid plans have no time limit. Export before you cancel and keep the file as your archive. Bilance has no file import: you connect your banks and recent transactions sync in directly; most are categorised automatically and improve with your corrections. How far back the history reaches depends on each bank.
Which one is for you?
Choose Spendee if you want e-wallet and crypto connections next to your banks, you mostly track shared manual expenses with someone on the free tier, or you want a light, visual tracker and are happy scheduling repeated payments yourself.
Choose Bilance if you want the app to do the work: categorisation that improves with your corrections, subscriptions found automatically, net worth built in, and real bank accounts shared with your partner. A savings rate tracked every month answers “was this a good month?” with a number instead of a feeling.
