Bilance vs Finanzguru

Finanzguru is a strong choice if your banking life is in Germany or Austria; Bilance connects banks across the EU/EEA. Finanzguru, made in Frankfurt, turns bank data into a managed list of contracts, and it can even cancel some of them for you from inside the app. Bilance covers banks across the EU/EEA, puts budgets, recurring payments, net worth and an AI assistant into one subscription, and adds a shared view for couples. We make Bilance, so every claim below is linked to an official page, opened on the date above; judge for yourself.
What Finanzguru does well
- Contract detection with in-app cancellation. Finanzguru finds repeating payments and manages them as contracts: automatic detection, reminders, manual edits and splitting, and cancellation from inside the app. This is its signature feature, and on cancellation it is simply ahead of Bilance. Bilance tracks each recurring payment with its amount, next date and paid status, but cancelling still happens with the provider.
- Bank linking without paying. Account connections, standard analyses and contract detection are all part of the permanent free tier. Finanzguru does not use bank sync as a paywall.
- Regulated in its own right. Operator dwins GmbH is a BaFin-regulated account-information and payment-initiation provider, connecting German and Austrian banks over XS2A and FinTS interfaces.
- A very large, happy home audience. On the German App Store it held 4.7 out of 5 from over 125,000 ratings when we checked. The app was German-only for years; English was added in July 2026.
Where Bilance is stronger
- Coverage beyond two countries. Finanzguru officially serves Germany and Austria, and its help centre says broader foreign-bank support is not planned for the foreseeable future. Bilance connects 2,300+ banks across the EU/EEA, browsable by country before you install anything.
- Everything in one subscription. Finanzguru’s free tier shows three months of transaction history; budgets, forecasts, statistics, full history and export sit in the paid Plus tier. Bilance has no permanent free tier: one subscription includes everything, and most new users start with a full-featured trial; the exact terms are shown in the app before you pay.
- A shared view for couples. Finanzguru documents no dedicated couples feature; each partner can link the same joint account separately. In Bilance, two people connect and choose account by account what to share, as covered in our couples budgeting guide.
- An AI assistant you can talk to. Finanzguru applies AI to categorisation and contract recognition, but we found no conversational assistant on its published pages. Bilance’s AI Chat is its own tab: ask about your spending, budgets or net worth, and the answer comes from your own numbers.
- A subscription-only business model. Finanzguru combines Plus subscriptions with commissions when its subsidiary brokers an insurance policy, partner offers, and a cashback programme called Sparbooster; its App Store listing is marked as containing ads. It states it never sells personal data. Bilance is funded by its subscription.
How we tested
We compared Bilance and Finanzguru across bank coverage, automation, recurring payments, budgets, sharing, platforms, languages and pricing model. Every non-Bilance fact comes from the vendor’s own website, help centre, legal documents, or app store listing, opened on the date shown with that cell’s source link. Where we could not verify a point, the table shows a dash instead of a guess. Bilance behaviour was checked in the current product. We did not run hands-on device tests of the other app for this article. The verdict is our editorial judgment, not a scored ranking, and we recheck the facts every two months.

Both apps categorise most transactions automatically, and both depend on each bank’s own interface quality, so sync reliability varies by bank for both.
Switching from Finanzguru
Finanzguru Plus can export transactions as an Excel file; brokerage and wallet transactions are excluded. Bilance imports CSV files, so save the export as CSV first (Excel and Numbers both do this). The file lands in a dedicated import account, with columns recognised automatically and Finanzguru’s category labels matched onto your own categories. For everything current, you connect your banks and recent transactions sync in directly, most of them categorised automatically; how far back the synced history reaches depends on each bank.
Which one is for you?
Choose Finanzguru if all your accounts are at German or Austrian banks, you want contracts cancelled from inside the app, or you want bank aggregation and contract detection without paying.
Choose Bilance if your accounts span more than one European country (or might, after a move), you want budgets, recurring-payment tracking and full transaction history included rather than in a separate tier, you share money with a partner, or you want a built-in AI assistant that answers from your own data.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my Finanzguru data into Bilance?

Which app can cancel a subscription for me?
Finanzguru. It supports cancelling detected contracts from inside the app. Bilance tracks each subscription and bill with its amount, next date and paid status, but you cancel with the provider yourself.
